Abstract

Abstract Key Points: • Most children over the age of ten years can manage a CPET. • The test should take place in an appropriate (i.e. child-friendly) environment. • CPET is commonly used in the surveillance of children with congenital heart disease. • CPET can provide prognostic insight in conditions such as cystic fibrosis. • CPET, using a ramp increase in workload, is not particularly sensitive in diagnosing exercise-induced bronchoconstriction in children.
