Abstract

Abstract Key Points: • Preoperative CPET is useful in assessing operative risk. • VO2max can help with operative planning, including the need for post-operative critical care support. • Measurement of AT provides additional information about operative risk. • The lower the VO2max and AT, the higher the risk of major surgery. • Preoperative CPET can be used to optimize management and prompt referral for ‘prehabilitation’.
