Abstract

Abstract This chapter addresses the primary arrangements in Israeli law concerning freedom of and from religion, and the intersections between freedom of religion, religious sensibilities, and other rights. The chapter begins with a brief historical introduction laying out the primary, positive-law protections of freedom of religion in Israel. The chapter then proceeds to focus upon three primary issues: (1) the scope of freedom of religion; (2) different approaches for the protection of freedom of religion; and (3) balancing freedom of religion and competing interests and rights.
