Abstract

Abstract This chapter discusses the legacy of Black Dancemaker Camille A. Brown. Brown is simultaneously an artistic director of Camille A. Brown and Dancers (CABD), an internationally renowned organization; a choreographer for stage and screen; director and choreographer of on and off-Broadway productions, as well as opera; and an educator. She embodies “cosmo-uBuntu” and her elevation of Social Dance is an uncompromised exaltation of her Blackness. The chapter then looks at the concept of corporeal-plagiarism and the appropriation of Black culture. It describes Brown’s first Gathering, which was part of the Association of Performing Arts Professionals’ (APAP) annual convening, bringing artists, producers, agents, and presenters from all across the globe. The chapter also considers her school, Social Dance for Social Change (SDSC), as well as the proposition of Urban Property Rights.
