Abstract

Abstract Abstract While research on aging adults with disabilities often focuses on age-related losses in functioning and on ways to prevent decline, a focus on positive psychology provides a different perspective and framework. This chapter provides a life course framework and describes a model of aging well with a disability that takes into account the supports and the social–environmental context of the lives of people with disabilities. It then examines the demographic context of aging into and with a disability. Next, the chapter focuses on several key aspects in the context of positive psychology, disability identity, self-determination, and social connectedness. It concludes with challenges to studying positive psychology among adults aging with disability.
