Abstract

Abstract This chapter explores expressivity in media communication, focusing on its presence across traditional written media, social media, online video games, and virtual reality environments. Traditional media generally lacks expressivity, with clickbait being an occasional tactic used to attract attention and increase engagement. In contrast, social media shows a high level of expressivity in both personal and public interactions. Online video games resemble social media but often exhibit higher levels of toxicity, characterized by frequent use of slurs and hate speech. Virtual reality environments, though less researched, differ from video games in several ways. The chapter presents a comparative analysis of how expressivity manifests across these media forms, juxtaposing their unique instances.
