Abstract

Abstract China’s space law has evolved alongside tremendous developments in space technology. However, the existing legal framework remains inadequate, particularly regarding the commercialization and privatization of space activities. This chapter aims to provide a basic outline of the current state of commercial space activities in China by briefing China’s space policies and regulations, with necessary explanations of space-related concepts and terms. Additionally, the emerging legal concerns arising from commercial space activities further highlight the imperfections of the prevailing United Nations treaties on outer space, emphasizing the significance of national space legislation, which China has already included in its legislative agenda. After a brief analysis of the achievements and potential developments in China’s national space law, the importance of a positive attitude towards China’s national space legislation and the sustainable development of its commercial space activities is described to conclude the chapter.
