Infection-preventing Policies and the Right to Bodily Integrity
Abstract
Abstract In Inducing Immunity? Marcel Verwei and Roland Pierik sometimes concede too readily that a policy aimed at preventing infection violates some people’s right to bodily integrity, even though such a policy on their view may still be justifiable. I discuss some of these policies. To determine whether a policy is coercive, it must be compared to a baseline situation. However, the correct baseline for comparison is not the situation prior to the policy, since that situation could deteriorate at any time due to the legitimate choices of others.
