Abstract

Several of the key studies cited in the review article, “Safety of nonblood plasma substitutes: less frequently discussed issues”,1 were authored by Joachim Boldt and have since been retracted by the respective journals owing to serious scientific deficiencies, including data falsification, absence of ethics approval, and non-reproducible results. Because the central arguments of this review article rely on these citations, which have since been retracted, the European Journal of Anaesthesiology has determined that the scientific validity of the conclusion is compromised and cannot be considered scientifically sound. This review article is retracted.
