Abstract

Following receipt of the institutional report from Klinikum Ludwigshafen, Germany, the article, “Association of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide and cardiac troponin T with in-hospital cardiac events in elderly patients undergoing coronary artery surgery”1 is retracted. Klinikum Ludwigshafen's report documents a comprehensive investigation into Joachim Boldt's research, and their findings revealed that in most studies, patient documentation could not be found. Where records existed, evidence of scientific fraud was also found. Because conclusions were drawn from the data presented in this article, the European Journal of Anaesthesiology has determined that the scientific validity of the conclusion is compromised and cannot be considered scientifically sound. This article is retracted.
