Abstract

Hemangiopericytoma, a rare tumor originating from Zimmerman cells around capillaries and venules, was first identified by Stout and Murray in 1942.This tumor, which can be benign or malignant, often affects the lower extremity and retroperitoneum. Its occurrence in the ovary is extremely rare, with only a few documented cases.A 58-year-old woman with a history of tubal ligation presented with abdominal pain.Tests showed a cyst on the left ovary and an enlarged right ovary, and a CT scan revealed a fibrous nucleus in the uterus and a cystic shadow on the right side.Surgery revealed an enlarged uterus, a clear left ovarian cyst, several tense cysts on the right ovary, and six volvuli of the peripherals. The patient underwent a total uterine, peripherals, and ovaries ablation, and a biopsy of the omentum. The biopsy revealed leiomyoma, ovarian hemangiopericytoma, and suspicious cells in the fluid. The patient recovered naturally post-surgery. Key Clinical Message:Ovarian hemangiopericytoma, a rare tumor with unclear symptoms, requires histopathological diagnosis.Treatment typically involves surgery and continued monitoring due to potential recurrence and metastasis. This case underscores its consideration in patients with ovarian masses and adds to the limited existing literature.
