Abstract

The racemic monoclinic polymorph of the title compound, C 8 H 10 O, is known from the literature [Antona et al. (1973). Acta Cryst. B 29 , 1372–1376] and has been redetermined here. Additionally, a new enantiopure orthorhombic polymorph is reported. The strongest intermolecular interactions are within one-dimensional hydrogen-bonded chains which are very similar in the two polymorphs. On the other hand, the packing of the chains in the crystal differs significantly between the two forms.
