Abstract

Abstract This chapter explores the intersection of generative Artificial Intelligence (gen AI) and Knowledge Management (KM), focusing on the challenges of misinformation and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-generated hallucinations. As AI technologies become increasingly integrated across various industries—such as healthcare, legal, and education—they introduce both opportunities and risks. While AI enhances decision-making, operational efficiency, and innovation, it also contributes to the spread of misinformation due to biases, incomplete data, and the probabilistic nature of AI models. This chapter examines key concerns, such as AI hallucinations, where systems generate seemingly credible but inaccurate information, leading to potential dilemmas. Real-world case studies highlight the consequences of misinformation in critical sectors, emphasizing the need for human oversight and robust validation mechanisms. Ultimately, this chapter advocates for a balanced approach to AI implementation, prioritizing accuracy, accountability, and ethical considerations to ensure the responsible use of AI technologies in KM.
