Make Social Studies Fun Again: Finding the Joy in Developing Enriching Social Studies Curriculum
Abstract
Abstract The study of social studies offers students rich narratives of the past and experiences in the field of social science teach vital skills that help our students grow as people and citizens. However, that’s not always the social studies classroom most of us have experienced. In becoming a social studies teacher, I’ve found that the true joy of teaching social studies lies in designing lessons that foster inquiry, spark curiosity, and challenge students to expand their perspectives. This chapter reflects on the instructional strategies I have developed as a social studies teacher to make learning engaging and meaningful for my students and myself. Through innovative practices, this chapter illustrates how social studies can be both enjoyable and intellectually stimulating, empowering students to think critically about the world around them.
