Abstract

Abstract This essay critiques the dominant find-the-gifted-child model of talent identification and advocates for a sociocultural approach that emphasizes expanding school-based opportunities for developing talent. Drawing on examples such as Title IX and continuous improvement models, we argue for systemic shifts that prioritize student needs over fixed labels and challenge traditional practices tied to age-based grouping and minimum academic standards. The proposed vision for schools of the future focuses on redefining success in advanced education as meeting students’ current academic needs through inclusive, dynamic, and contextually responsive instruction.
