Future Trends in Eco-HRM: Transforming Human Resource Management for Sustainable Growth
Abstract
As we approach 2030, the future of human resource (HR) is highly linked to environmental sustainability. The various emerging trends and industrial shifts, opportunities, and challenges with eco-friendly human resource (Eco-HR) practices, majorly focus on green recruitment, remote work impact, sustainable work environment, learning and development, eco-compensation strategies, and most importantly, integration of environmental goals into corporate strategy. Nowadays, as organizations are prioritizing sustainability, green recruitment has become essential for attracting eco-conscious talent. Companies are emphasizing their commitment to environmental responsibility through transparent communication of sustainability initiatives by creating job roles that align with ecological values. The progressive movement toward emerging smart societies is making organizations vigilant toward sustainability, aligning their business process with the sustainable development goals (SDGs) laid out by the United Nation (UN). Green HRM and Eco-HR practices have demonstrated significant benefits for both businesses and the environment. Moreover, the industry has increasingly adopted innovative human resource management (HRM) practices that focus on designing eco-friendly office spaces, promoting employee well-being, and achieving eco-efficiency. To effectively assess the impact of these practices, organizations must implement rigorous metrics and evaluation frameworks that capture their environmental and organizational outcomes. Key performance indicators (KPI) may include employee participation in implementing eco-friendly practices at the workplace, reduction in the organization’s carbon footprint, and stakeholders’ feedback on the organization’s green practices. The objective of this study is to investigate the factors influencing the adoption of eco-friendly human resource management (Eco-HRM). The proposed framework will demonstrate the key drivers and challenges that shape the actual implementation of Eco-HR practices.
