Abstract

This chapter addresses the challenge of ethical remedies and resolutions for knowledge-related dilemmas. The authors explain why ethical violations do not have legal protections and remedies and why traditional punishment and penalties are unlikely to be effective. Instead, the authors consider what actions and behaviors might be effective in preventing the dilemma from arising and how to formulate a compensation that might address the full scope of the effect of the dilemma. Given the consequences of any unethical knowledge action, it is important to disincentivize future unethical acts. The authors consider what forms of compensation might act as a future deterrent.
