Abstract

Purpose This paper aims to research the grease-solid synergistic lubrication effects between lubricating grease and SnAgCu-Ti3C2 to improve the tribological properties of G20CrMo steel. Design/methodology/approach Inspired by the microstructure characteristics of the sharkskin, G20CrMo matrix bionic self-lubricating composites (GMBSC) were designed and prepared by filling SnAgCu and MXene-Ti3C2 in the bionic rhomboid texture of G20CrMo steel. The tribological performances and grease-solid synergistic lubrication mechanisms are systematically researched. Findings Under grease lubrication, compared with G20CrMo steel, the average friction coefficient and wear rate of GMBSC at 20 N and 25°C are reduced by 65.2% and 86.2%, respectively. The lubricating grease and Ti3C2 with layered structure facilitate the spreading of SnAgCu at the friction interface. The SnAgCu-Ti3C2 provides necessary support for the lubricating grease, effectively mitigating its loss and enhancing the integrity and stability of lubricating film. The grease-solid synergistic lubrication effects are conducive to the formation of a complete and stable lubricating film at the friction interface, which is composed of SnAgCu-Ti3C2, lubricating grease and tribochemical reaction products. Originality/value This work provides an experimental reference for the tribological design of mechanical components through grease-solid synergistic lubrication.
