Abstract

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for coexistence among inhabitants and with the environment. This agenda comprises 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), spanning from poverty to environmental conservation. Academic libraries have designed and delivered activities aligned with these goals, but documenting them needs improvement. Understanding how we meet these SDGs is crucial for advancing progress in context. In this chapter, the authors describe and discuss the findings from an exploratory inquiry on how selected academic libraries in the Philippines meet the UN SDGs mandate. They used the published online rankings of public and private Philippine universities as a data source when selecting academic libraries to review. Once the researchers had selected, they took a closer look at each academic library’s website to identify achievements, challenges, and insights related to meeting a specific SDG. Finally, the authors discuss the implications of these efforts for Philippine librarianship.
