A Unified Analytical Framework for Classical DC–DC Converters in Continuous Conduction Mode With PWM-Switch Modeling
Abstract
Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) switch modeling offers an effective and simplified framework for analytical modeling of DC-DC converters. This systematically synthesizes both DC and small-signal AC models by replacing the nonlinear switching behaviour with a linearised equivalent three-terminal small-signal circuit. The technique provides a topology-independent model, which eases the analysis of converters in various topologies. The Fast Analytical Circuits Techniques (FACTs) are then used to derive control-to-output transfer functions in the form of low-entropy expressions, from where we can easily extract time constants, poles, and zeros. It bypasses the algebraic complexity associated with traditional methods such as state-space averaging (SSA). The resulting analytical expressions simplify the process of stability analysis and controller design by revealing the effect of components on system dynamics. The resulting expression of the analytical expressions simplifies the process of stability analysis and controller design by indicating the interaction of components on system dynamics. Analytical findings confirm the capability of the PWM switch model to model converter dynamics accurately, and is more precise than traditional models with a significant reduction in modeling time. This method is therefore of great benefit to the academic research and practical applications of power electronics.
