Abstract

A resonant push-pull converter is proposed in this paper, which can achieve Zero Current Switching (ZCS) and Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS), used in Travelling-wave Tube Amplifier (TWTA) high voltage applications. The proposed resonant push-pull converters can effectively utilize the transformer’s parasitic capacitor as the parallel resonant capacitor, its leakage inductance as the series resonant inductor, and its magnetizing inductance as the parallel resonant inductor, requiring only an additional capacitor as the resonant capacitor. Therefore, the proposed resonant push-pull power converters have the advantage of a simple structure and fewer components. In addition, due to the use of only two switches with ZVS and ZCS, the turn-on and turn-off losses of switches are lower. The working principles of the resonant push-pull power converter are explained. On this basis, the key parametric equations are deduced. A resonant push-pull converter with 21V/6800V, 55 kHz, 120 W, and 97.27% efficiency was built to validate the analysis and superiority.
