Abstract

Holographic displays employ computer-generated holograms (CGHs) and spatial light modulators to reproduce three-dimensional moving images. They are expected to serve as next-generation cross-reality (XR) or extended reality (XR) technologies. However, the generation of CGHs involves extremely high computational complexity. We have developed a series of special-purpose computers for holography, referred to as HORN (HOlographic ReconstructioN). In this paper, we present the tenth-generation system, HORN-X, which incorporates separable convolution–an algorithm that reduces the computational complexity of CGH generation. Experimental results demonstrate that HORN-X achieves computation speeds up to 65 times faster than a conventional CPU.
