Manufacturing and Subsystem Validation of an HTS Electric Motor for Single-Aisle Regional Aircraft Propulsion
Abstract
This paper presents the design, manufacturing process and subsystem validation of a superconducting electric machine designed to replace a conventional turbine in a regional aircraft. The primary aim is to advance in the development of the more-electric aircraft by integrating and evaluating various technologies within a lab-scale technology validator. These technologies include a superconducting rotor cooled by cryogenic helium and an oil-flooded and slot-through stator cooling, achieving high specific power density and efficiency. Additionally, this paper thoroughly outlines the motor’s manufacturing process and subsystem validation.
