Abstract

In this paper, an SSPP filtering antenna based on Vivaldi antenna was designed as a sensor for continuous non-invasive blood glucose monitoring in the context of wireless medical sensing. It can monitor blood glucose levels from 50 mg/dL to 500 mg/dL, corresponding to the range from hypoglycemia to hyperglycemia of human beings. At the resonant frequency of 5.6 GHz, the antenna-based sensor achieves a percentage bandwidth of 12.5% (S11−1MHz/(mg/dL) in terms of resonant frequency shift and 2.44×10−2dB/(mg/dL) in terms of resonant amplitude variation. The proposed antenna-based sensor features compact structure and superior performance, demonstrating an intriguing potential to be applied to wireless non-invasive blood glucose monitoring.
