Real-Time Implementation and Experimental Validation of a Novel Vector Control Strategy for a PV-Fed Reduced-Structure Inverter–Driven Induction Motor Using dSPACE 1104
Abstract
Photovoltaic (PV)-fed induction motor drives are increasingly used in low-power applications, yet conventional three-phase inverters often impose high hardware complexity and cost. This paper presents a novel vector control strategy specifically tailored for reduced-structure B3 delta inverters supplying induction motors in PV systems. The proposed approach combines Rotor Field-Oriented Control (RFOC) with advanced modulation techniques, ensuring fast torque response, low harmonic distortion, and improved flux regulation despite the limited voltage vectors of the delta inverter. A real-time implementation on a dSPACE 1104 platform is conducted, complemented by a full experimental test bench, validating both steady-state and dynamic performance. Results demonstrate that the reduced-structure inverter, when paired with the proposed control, achieves performance comparable to conventional B6 inverters while offering significant hardware simplification, cost reduction, and enhanced compactness. This study provides practical insights into the design and deployment of efficient, low-cost PV-fed induction motor drives for emerging renewable-energy applications.
