ZVS–ZCS-Supported Control for V2G Wireless Charging
Abstract
The growing integration of Electric Vehicles (EVs) into the power grid has highlighted the need for efficient and flexible charging solutions, particularly through Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology. In this context, wireless charging systems require advanced control strategies to handle both active ($P$) and reactive ($Q$) power flow, while minimizing energy losses. This paper presents the development of a novel control algorithm for wireless V2G systems considering the integration of Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) and Zero Current Switching (ZCS) to reduce converter switching losses. The ZVS and ZCS functionalities are achieved by modulating the phase shift angles of the power converters, enabling soft-switching in all power flow scenarios. The proposed solution is compared with a previously developed V2G control algorithm that does not implement ZVS and ZCS, in order to evaluate improvements in system efficiency. Experimental results show that while the previous control offers better performance at low power levels, the proposed ZVS-ZCS-based technique significantly enhances efficiency at higher power levels (above 90 \% of rated power), which aligns with the typical demands of V2G applications.
