Automating Enterprise Vulnerability Exposure: SCAP-Based Asset-CVE Linkage with Social Signal Triage for Cyber Defense
Abstract
This paper presents a practical cyber defense blueprint for shrinking the window of exposure from software flaws by unifying open-standard telemetry and early-warning social signals into a repeatable vulnerability management workflow. It operationalizes asset discovery and normalization using CPE, correlates inventories to CVE and severity via CVSS from authoritative feeds (e.g., NVD), and triggers policy-driven actions to prioritize patching and isolation across the estate. Complementing this standards-driven pipeline, it outlines a social-mediaassisted triage layer that mines security discourse (e.g., exploit chatter) to surface zero-day and rapidly evolving threats ahead of vendor bulletins, governed by a trust and de-duplication model. The architecture, roles, and data flows are detailed for terminals, asset management servers, and local vulnerability knowledge bases, along with trade-offs such as CPE resolution accuracy and noise control in social streams. Framed for SOC and CTI teams, the approach accelerates detection, scoring, and remediation decisions, integrating with existing controls to reduce attack surface while maintaining verifiable, standards-aligned auditability.
