Dynamic Pricing Based Home Energy Management for Islanded Operation with Integrated Distributed Energy Resources
Abstract
An innovative technique for optimizing residential energy consumption using home energy management systems (HEMS) is introduced with a focus on reducing electricity bills and improving energy efficiency. The technique describes a dynamic pricing technique for load optimization in an islanded mode operation of HEMS, especially during situations when grid connection is not feasible. The proposed technique considers an integrated operation of major DER such as photovoltaic systems, electric vehicles, and battery energy storage systems, including situations when grid connection is not feasible. The technique demonstrates real-time control using dynamic pricing signals to maximize energy efficiency. Results have been obtained for two different outage situations: a short-term schedule and a continuous$\mathbf{2 4}$-hour islanding mode. The results obtained for different seasons, including spring, summer, and winter, indicate a reduction in grid dependency to 10 % for spring months and a subsequent amplification to 50 % in both summer and winter months for short-term outages. As per latest studies, a complete dependency on local resources can be achieved for full-day islanding situations. The latest research shows an impact of up to 60 % in lessening grid dependency using such integrated HEMS systems under increasing demand due to escalating energy prices.
