Abstract

In this demonstration, we propose a conductive-textile-based tactile presentation system. This system employs a double-sided conductive textile as a transmission medium, which conveys both DC power and data signals. On the conductive textile, actuators with tiny driver circuits can be attached at arbitrary points and can obtain DC power and signals to drive them anywhere. For the signal transmission, we employ multichannel frequency-modulation (FM) in this system. This can be implemented with commercially available FM broadcast receiver ICs at low cost; and realtime-captured waveform transfer can be easily implemented without perceivable delay. It is advantageous over the previously proposed textile-based haptic feedback system that operates in a record-and-playback manner.
