Abstract

In this paper, a model-based passivity control strategy for a battery charger operating in both grid-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-grid modes is proposed. The power stage consists of a single-phase full-bridge AC-DC converter cascaded with a bidirectional buck-boost DC-DC converter interfacing the battery pack. A nonlinear passivity-based control strategy is proposed to guarantee closed-loop stability under bidirectional power flow. The control objectives include power factor correction, DC-link voltage regulation, and accurate tracking of the battery charging profile, considering both constant-current and constant-voltage modes and G2V and V2G transitions. Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in regulating power flow during G2V and V2G operation, achieving stable mode transitions, unity power factor, and proper battery charging behavior.
