Zero-Trust Security Models for Cloud, Edge, and IoT Environments
Abstract
The scalding increase of cloud computing, edge intelligence, and Internet of Things (IoT) ecologies has tremendously enlarged the frontier of cyber-attacks, and hence, the traditional perimeter-based protection strategies cannot be employed anymore. Zero-Trust Security (ZTS) has already emerged as a useful paradigm that demands an on-the-fly verification, the least-privilege access and extreme identity-centric controls, irrespective of network location. This paper is a critical analysis of the Zero-Trust Security Models, which are specifically formulated to fit within cloud, edge, and IoT environments because they are heterogeneous resources with limited resources and dynamic threat environments. According to this framework, it assumes the combination of identity and access control, validation of device trust, micro- segmentation, policies, and continual behaviour monitoring in distributed computing layers. The priority is concentrated on providing east-west traffic assurance, insider threat minimization, and adaptive trust analysis of latency-sensitive edge and IoT deployments. Besides, the paper discusses the issues of architectural design, deployment issues and performance trade-offs including scalability, latency overhead, and interoperability. The suggested solution will enhance the capability of responding to advanced persistent threats and unlicensed access by executing the concepts of Zero-Trust in cloud-edge-IoT continuums, which will guarantee the efficiency of operations. The findings indicate that in order to build secure, scale-able and future-oriented distributed systems, Zero-Trust-based security designs were the key.
