Abstract

The modern era of technology encompasses many innovative areas such as cloud computing and the applications and services within them. These workloads, primarily based on microservices architectures, have ushered in blazing fast applications and cloud services. The entire lifecycle of these workloads embedded within traditional DevOps model has been redefined with a shift left approach to security. This is where DevSecOps promises to be a major game changer in this context. This paper explores the overall merger between such cloud workloads and artificial intelligence (AI). While such a combination is pretty much in its nascent stage, this study delves deeper into ways in which such integrations can work seamlessly across stakeholders. The issues of containerized workloads across various pipeline stages, including code commit, build, testing, deployment, and runtime monitoring are investigated and given adequate attention. The paper also explores the trade-offs involved in meeting exponential consumer demand with improved security and threat surface minimization of these cloud-based microservices inclusive of real-world examples. The current AI-driven security automation processes are examined and the limitations of such static rule based, and reactive models are also touched upon. AI-driven techniques such as anomaly detection, predictive risk scoring, intelligent vulnerability prioritization, and automated policy enforcement are further looked at from a regulatory perspective for large enterprise environments. AI-driven DevSecOps provides a step forward in enhancing the security and reliability of cloud-native applications. The present study further calls out AI explainability and real-world validation, specifically from a microservices architecture standpoint and how to manage them effectively to accelerate industry wide adoption.
