Abstract

The issue of citizen safety has been of great concern in the recent past due to the unauthorized immigration and the global terrorism threats. Complex video surveillance systems are being produced to prevent bad things to occur and to protect people and their property. Thermal cameras are now becoming more significant elements of these systems because they can work in bad weather and at night when the RGB cameras are not able to work. The given work applies the convolutional neural network models used in RGB image recognition and tries to explore the problem of automatic recognition of human bodies in thermal images. Based on a collection of thermal pictures and thermal videos, we evaluate the performance of some of the state-of-the-art object recognition models, such as SSD, the YOLO framework, and Faster R-CNN to identify unauthorized individuals in sensitive regions and at border points. Recent research demonstrates that the YOLO architecture can significantly increase processing speed with a performance similar to the state-of-the-art detectors. The experiments have outstanding results of detection in a range of test conditions despite a small training dataset of thermal pictures. We also observe that what we have put forward is that the performance of the put forth model is established through the use of very known thermal imaging data sets which in turn demonstrates its performance in identifying persons on thermal images with much accuracy. It is a special ability that works in favor of the case of unauthorized border crossing, the clandestine movement of the objects or the search and rescue. The value of thermal images technology has also been introduced in the abstract. The first is that it is employed in many different ways, that it employs longer wave lengths than that of visible light, and that it can be employed in bad weather. We also get to see what sets of these advantages may be obtained in concert with even more advanced object detection algorithms to significantly improve search and rescue missions, to put the end to illegal action, and to improve security in most real world scenarios.
