AI-Enhanced Solar-Powered Smart Water Purification System with RFID-Based Access Control for Rural Communities
Abstract
The availability of safe and reliable drinking water to rural and off-grid communities is a significant challenge because access to electricity is minimal, the cost of operation is also high, and no constant monitoring is provided. In this paper, the design and development of an AI-enhanced solar-powered smart water purification system are described to provide sustainable and affordable potable water with the minimal human input. The suggested system incorporates candle and activated carbon filtration systems that run on a separate solar energy module. To measure the key parameters of water quality such as pH, total dissolved solids (TDS), turbidity, electrical conductivity and flow rate in real time, a microcontroller-based control unit measures these parameters with various sensors. A smart cleaning system is added with the help of artificial intelligence to anticipate the clogging of filters on the basis of real-time sensor behavior. In the event of degradation, an automated pulse reverse-wash will occur to regain filtration capability and filter life. Besides, an AI based estimation model assesses the variations in taste and odor in water by matching sensor data of multiple parameters with variations in season. In order to maintain controlled and safe water supply, RFID access control system is adopted that will help to verify the identities of users and avoid unuseful purposes. The system works independently with renewable energy and therefore it is applicable in remote and resource-limited settings. The solution proposed proves to be a practical, scaled and energy saving initiative toward enhancing the drinking water quality in rural areas.
