Real-Time Disaster Alert Dissemination using Sentinel Shield: A Satellite-Enabled Emergency Communication Framework
Abstract
The Sentinel Shield is a disaster detection and emergency response framework designed for operations over areas with limited internet connectivity. Real-time ingestion of satellite and environmental data is used to identify a disaster and classify it with the help of machine learning models that assess the severity based on geographical and environmental parameters. In the event of communication failure during disasters, a hybrid LoRa and Bluetooth Mesh network has been implemented, capable of sending out alerts and emergency data in offline mode as well. The portable Smart Responder Kit comes equipped with biomedical sensors to monitor vital signs continuously, such as heart rate, SpO₂, and body temperature for real-time triage support of medical teams. Live situational awareness, event mapping, and prioritization of patients are provided in a unified dashboard for authorities and health responders. It enhances the efficiency of operations, cuts down information delay, and increases survivability in the most crucial events related to disasters. It is modular and scalable to adapt to various geographical regions and emergency contexts.
