A Systematic Survey on Task Scheduling Strategies in Edge Computing for Real-Time and Heterogeneous Environments
Abstract
Edge computing is increasingly being employed for budding demands of real-time and latency-sensitive applications in terms of offering flexibility as well as parallelism at the site where the data resides. Flexibility is offered with the formation of heterogeneous resources at the edge for facilitating applicationdependent operations of various kinds. In the same relation, Task scheduling, is an indispensable operation to enable parallel execution and efficient utilization of resources, which are required for optimizing the performance of the system in edge-based heterogeneous systems. Reviewing of variety of task scheduling models done that support parallelism in heterogeneous edge systems in the study. The study explores different scheduling strategies personalized for edge computing, with a emphasis on how they handle diverse workloads and respond to real-time constraints. A comparative analysis is provided based on key attributes such as execution time, task type, load-handling capability, simulation approach and the characteristics of the computing platforms and hosts involved.
