Abstract

It is important to stock electricity for emergency situations during ordinary days. For this purpose, Battery Swapping Stations (BSSs) with sufficiently charged spare batteries for Battery Swapping Electric Vehicle (BSEV) services work as distributed electricity resources (DERs). Commonly, an EV with a depleted battery changes it at a BSS selected by the EV itself. However, it is difficult to adjust the State of Charge (SOC) to the desired level under such a user-centric battery swapping approach. Hence, this paper proposes a novel BSScentric battery swapping method in which a BSS broadcasts battery-change requests. Performance evaluations confirm that the BSS-centric battery-change requests effectively increase SOC levels and clarify that this approach contributes to building a flexible emergency infrastructure for electricity storage.
