Abstract

An IoT-based cold chain monitoring solution whose main aim is to guarantee the safety and quality of temperature-sensitive products. Cold chain supply chains need constant and stable temperature monitoring since any slight variations may damage the quality of the product and result in losses in finances. The paper meets this requirement to create a Coligo Cold Chain Monitoring System based on IoT sensors attached to an ESP32 microcontroller installed in an ice cream truck. The system will also periodically take temperature readings in the refrigerated storage cabinet and send the information on the Message Queuing Telemetry Transport communication protocol in real time. MQTT is highly appropriate in these types of applications since it is light, fast, and reliable even in an environment where the connectivity is unstable. The data sent is then transmitted to Coligo Lite a monitoring platform which displays the temperature readings and raises an alarm in case of values beyond predetermined levels. This enables operators to easily identify abnormal conditions and take corrective measures before damage is caused to products. The outcomes of the experiment indicate that the system can provide a stable transmission of data and correct real-time monitoring alongside dependable alarm generation. Also, the system architecture is scalable and flexible. It may be improved with the addition of more sensors, a mobile app notification, and an automated temperature control system. In sum, the proposed system is a viable and cost-effective, to enhance the transparency, reliability, and quality assurance of the contemporary cold supply chains.
