Design and Implementation of Secure Student Portal Using Cryptographic Security Services
Abstract
In recent years, the need for universities to protect sensitive information has increased significantly due to the growing volume of data generated and shared through digital platforms. This work presents a secure student portal application that demonstrates fundamental cryptographic security services used to protect sensitive data. The proposed system incorporates password-based authentication, data encryption and decryption mechanisms, and cryptographic hashing using the SHA-256 algorithm. In addition, the system simulates both active and passive attacks to illustrate potential security threats. The study further analyzes how data tampering can be detected using integrity verification techniques through the comparison of hash values. Although the implementation is simplified for educational purposes, it effectively demonstrates the core principles of cybersecurity that form the foundation of many real-world security applications such as online banking systems, academic record management, and e-commerce platforms.
