Abstract

Quantitative analysis of the Sit-to-Stand (STS) movement is often limited by expensive, lab-based optical motion capture systems. This paper presents the proposed architecture and preliminary verification of a portable, low-cost system integrating two Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) with a synchronized Intel RealSense D435 camera for robust STS analysis. This project stage addresses two key engineering challenges: 1) hardware unreliability, solved by a 'bare-metal' firmware that communicates directly with sensor registers, and 2) data synchronization, solved by a master-slave software architecture. This architecture ensures reliable, time-aligned data acquisition from heterogeneous hardware by combining serial and User Datagram Protocol (UDP) communication under the control of a custom LabVIEW interface. System verification tests demonstrate the system's capability to successfully acquire synchronized, multimodal data (IMU and video), providing a robust framework for future quantitative movement analysis.
