An Adjustable Window for FIR Filter Design with Improved Spectral Characteristics and Application
Abstract
This paper introduces a modern flexible window function, which exhibits linear phase response and stability for designing the finite impulse response filters. It consists of a power parameter γ for regulating the shape associated with the window design. The recommended window is contrasted against the various adjustable windows, analogous to Gaussian, Kaiser, and Dolph-Chebyshev. The simulation-driven outcomes indicate that the finite impulse response filter developed utilizing the presented window offers 89.42 dB higher attenuation of sidelobes than the Gaussian window, 53.77 dB and 87.53 dB improved attenuation of sidelobes against the Kaiser window and the Dolph-Chebyshev window. All the stated filters are employed on a noisy audio signal for signal denoising. As a result, the filter developed using the proposed window provides 5.037 dB better (S/N) signal-to-noise ratio as contrasted to the Gaussian filter. Also, it provides 2.072 dB and 2.109 dB improved signal-to-noise ratio, superior to the Kaiser and Dolph-Chebyshev filters, respectively.
