Study on Fire Suppression of Lithium-Ion Battery Module by Perfluorohexanone
Abstract
This study conducted thermal runaway fire experiments on lithium-ion batteries to analyze temperature, voltage, and gas generation during thermal runaway. It investigated fire risks in lithium-ion battery energy storage systems for engineering applications and performed fire suppression experiments using perfluorohexanone (PFOH) on individual battery modules. The results demonstrated that lithium-ion batteries exhibit intense thermal runaway ignition, with peak cell wall temperatures reaching 627.6°C. PFOH effectively suppressed the fire, with the flame extinguishing within 11 seconds and no re-ignition observed after 24 hours.
