An IoT-Enabled Solar-Assisted Portable Wireless EV Charging System with Intelligent Routing and Integrated Safety Protection
Abstract
The increasing adoption of EVs has amplified the demand for dependable charging schemes, especially in emergency or isolated situations where access to traditional charging networks is not possible. In this paper, a solar-assisted portable wireless EV charging system with integrated shortcircuit detection is proposed, capable of effectively and safely delivering emergency charging support. The proposed system focuses on portability, renewable energy utilization, contactless power transfer, and enhanced operational safety. This system is based on an Arduino UNO, which is the main controller coordinating sensing, communication, and charging operations. Controlled actuation of the portable mechanism for charging is done with an L298 motor driver and DC motor to make sure that during operation; electrical isolation can take place. It uses an HC05 Bluetooth module, thus providing the feasibility of monitoring through wireless means and user interaction. It employs a Tesla coil, ensuring contactless resonant inductive coupling-based wireless power transfer. A solar panel is used for charging the system battery from renewable energy sources to enable operation off the grid. Emergency communication and tracking are implemented using a NEO-6M GPS module and a SIM800L GSM module. Rechargeable 3.7 V and 9 V batteries provide uninterruptible power, while integrated short-circuit detection enhances system safety during charging. Experimental performance evaluation has shown service accuracy of 94%, efficiency in charging station selection at 95.83%, successful wireless charging at 95.74%, and the average response time of the system is 5.15 s. All these show great improvements in comparison with state-of-the-art solutions. The proposed system provides a practical solution for an EV in an emergent charging situation. Further work includes improving the power of charging, optimal efficiency, and large-scale real deployment.
