Abstract

Current and future energy demand and supply datasets of countries become crucial in analysing and quantifying future energy transition pathways to mitigate global temperature rise. To address the energy data scarcity for 14 Pacific Island countries, we developed a comprehensive dataset that includes their existing electricity generation capacity, current and future load projections for power, heat, and transport sectors, as well as the offshore renewable energy potential of wave energy and offshore wind energy. The dataset also includes biomass resources potential based on crops, woods, and biogas. We further compared our energy demand and supply dataset with reports and energy statistics from reliable sources for validation. Our final database is the most comprehensive dataset to date for the Pacific Islands and is useful for understanding the energy landscape and potentially facilitating the energy transitions for these often-overlooked island nations.
