Abstract

The distributed wound high-speed interior permanent magnet synchronous machines (HS-IPMSM) are widely adopted due to their high-performance capabilities. However, despite giving high electromagnetic performance, distributed winding generates high copper losses. In this study, a 4 pole 24 slot, concentrated wound Double-Tied Arch Bridge (DAB) type HS-IPMSM is presented. The adopted concentrated winding resulted in reducing the coil flux linkage and average torque of the proposed design, which are optimized using the split ratio and genetic algorithm optimization. Afterwards, the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) based, electromagnetic performance analysis of the conventional distributed wound and optimized concentrated wound DAB-type HS-IPMSM is performed. Upon comparison, the adopted winding configuration can reduce the end winding length, ultimately reducing the cogging torque and copper losses of the conventional machine by 57.17 % and 69 %, respectively, resulting in an increase in the overall efficiency by 0.18 %, making it highly suitable for applications requiring high speed and high efficiency, along with lower noise and vibration.
