Abstract

The crucial aspect of human contact is communication. It can be challenging for people with speech and hearing impairment to communicate with individuals unfamiliar with sign language. To address this, we have developed a wearable Sign Language Glove that translates hand gestures into real-time text and speech output. The prototype uses a combination of flex, touch sensors, and a gyroscope sensor (MPU-6050), interfaced with an ESP32 microcontroller. The system captures both static and dynamic hand movements, processes the data, and sends it via Bluetooth to a mobile application which displays the gesture as text and optionally reads it aloud. Designed to be costeffective and user-friendly and offers a practical and low-cost assistive solution for improving communication accessibility.
