Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) is the latest technology. With the rapid development of this technology, IoT applications along with the end devices which are called sensors will generate massive amounts of data soon. But the solutions for managing, storing and using the gigantic amounts of data generated by these IoT devices are still immature and need to be researched upon. There are many types of databases like relational database management systems (RDBMS) which is termed as a traditional one these days. RDBMS has supported all the user requirements together with simplicity, robustness, flexibility, scalability, and performance. But the most limitation they're facing is their static schema which is making RDBMS not suitable for IoT applications. Likewise, there are NoSQL databases emerging in market and they have claimed to perform better than SQL or RDBMS databases. NoSQL databases are non-relational databases that schema free without the need to join multiple tables, easy replication support, and very easy to scale horizontally, etc. And the third kind of database system is the time-series databases that are specifically developed to handle the time series data which the IoT sensors produce. With the rise of IoT, time-series databases (TSDBs) are growing in popularity. Time series databases are developed to manage and analyze large amounts of time series data. However, it's not easy to choose the best database system and the best provider that is suitable for a specific IoT application.
