Design and Implementation of a Role Based Blockchain Cloud Framework for Healthcare Data Transmission
Abstract
Healthcare data transmission demands robust security and privacy measures due to the sensitive nature of patient information and the involvement of multiple stakeholders across distributed environments. This paper presents the design and implementation of a role based blockchain cloud framework for secure and efficient healthcare data transmission. The proposed framework integrates blockchain technology with cloud computing, leveraging blockchain's decentralized trust model, immutability, and smart contract capabilities to enforce Role Based Access Control (RBAC) policies across all data transactions. By assigning fine grained permissions to different user roles (such as patients, doctors, and administrators) and embedding these rules into smart contracts, the system guarantees that only authorized entities can access or modify medical data. Concurrently, the cloud infrastructure provides scalable data storage and high throughput processing for large volumes of medical records, while the blockchain ledger maintains an immutable audit trail of all access and data exchange events. A prototype of the framework was implemented on a permissioned Blockchain network and evaluated to assess its performance and security. Experimental results demonstrate that the framework achieves secure data transmission with minimal latency overhead and negligible impact on throughput, while preserving data confidentiality and integrity under different workload conditions. Thus, the role based Blockchain cloud approach offers a scalable, transparent, and auditable solution for trustworthy healthcare data sharing and management.
