Abstract

This project shows underwater data communication that uses visible light instead of radio signals. The system uses ESP32 microcontroller on both the transmitter and receiver sides. An LED driven by transistor circuit is used to transmit data using a On-Off keying (OOK) technique. On the receiver side solar panel is used which receives the optical signal transmitted by LED and converts it to electrical signals which is decoded by ESP32. In order to communicate for long distance repeaters are used along the transmitter-receiver path to amplify the signal. This system is ideal for underwater data communication as it's efficient and inexpensive. Underwater communication can be helpful for naval and defense operation, oceanography data collection, environmental monitoring, underwater navigation and control and search and rescue operation.
