The Gen Z's Perception on Mirroring Treatment Towards Mediated Interpersonal Communication in X Social Media
Abstract
Digital interaction through social media allows individuals to communicate with each other without direct physical presence. Mirroring treatment, a reaction to imitate the behavior or communication style of others, is one type of interaction that attracts attention. This phenomenon is increasingly appropriate among generation Z, most of whom communicate through social media. This study aims to analyze the influence of generation Z's perception on mirroring treatment towards their mediated interpersonal communication in X social media, by using social information processing measures. This study uses a quantitative approach with a survey method to 400 eligible respondents. The results of this study reveal a very strong and substantial relationship between perceptions of mirroring treatment and the intensity of involvement in digital interactions. This study indicates that a communication style which reflects user behavior is able to increase the quality level in interactions. The findings are expected to be the basis for further research to create the concept of mirroring treatment in various other digital communication contexts.
